Atwood I dont know what to tell you as far as value because I thin that the Remington Rand 1911a1s are one of the more common 1911a1s that you can find. I have a 1943 Remington Rand 1911A1 that needs to be re-parkerized. I do see what appear to be withness marks from. There are no rebuild marks that I can see but the FJA looks double struck. 1600 1918 Colt M1911 Rearsenaled after WWI with earlier colt slide. Frame has Ordnance Acceptance mark (FJA) is for Col. You will find the FJA stamp on a lot of Remington guns (1911a1, 1903s, 1919a4, etc) and is the final inspection mark of Colonel Frank J. I recently purchased this 1911A1, all the markings seem very sharp and clear but I have reviewed Clausons book and suspect the frame is a Remington Rand while the slide is an Ithica. Genuine WW2 1911a1 Remington Rand ‘44 Everything is proper and correct here.

Are you sure your friend didnt have it nickle plated after he bought it Remington Rand made 1,086,624 A1s from 1943 to 1945. It has excellent Dulite finish with some high wear finish most likely from a holster. The normal finish on a M1911A1 would be parkerized and be a greyish or greenish dull finish. I have 3 original Risdon magazines, a 1942 Avery mag pouch, and a repro belt. This pistol has NOT been rebuilt and the parts are correct and original.
